PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE II THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT FLU
What is the best way to prevent the flu?
Yearly flu vaccinations are the best method for prevention – now more so than ever. Here is why a flu shot this year is highly recommended:
- Unprecedented times: The global COVID-19 pandemic has no doubt shaken our lives. Although the flu vaccine does not prevent COVID-19, it will minimize the burden of the flu’s effect on the body. Studies have confirmed that most patients infected with the flu in previous years did not get the flu vaccine, showing that a flu shot has demonstrable results.
- Eligibility: Everyone over the age of 6 months can take the safe and effective measure of getting a flu shot every year. At the end of summer and when available, members of the community must get vaccinated, especially the ones from high risk categories such as young children, pregnant women, people with certain chronic health conditions, employees working in the healthcare sector, and people aged 65 years and older.
- Four strains: The annual flu shot protects against four different influenza viruses which are identified every year to be the most common or prevalent in communities. This is another reason for the efficacy of the vaccine.
- Minimal side effects: Side effects in flu shots are very rare, and even if they do occur, they pose less of a threat than the danger of getting infected by the influenza virus. Examples of the rare and temporary side effects include redness or pain in the injected area, low grade fever, and body aches.
