Cool Your Home Naturally

Cool Your Home Naturally   Space cooling and heating can account for up to 45% of your total home energy use every year, but there are numerous strategies you can employ to reduce cooling costs. Below are some cost-effective ways to cool your home: Eenergy efficient bulbs Switch to energy efficient bulbs. Regular light bulbs are not energy efficient and radiate a lot of excess heat. Doors and windows Close your doors, blinds, or curtains when the temperatures during daytime increase and open windows at night-time to let the cool air in when the temperatures drop.  Indoor plants Leafy plants can create a good ambience and help with temperature regulation. If you have some large decorative or potted plants around, move them closer to your windows. They will absorb most of the heat and create a cooling effect around them.

Protect Your Bones With today marking the World Osteoporosis Day, understand how diet, physical activity and othe rlifestyle factors can affect your bone mass.  Use it or lose it A study compared the bone density in an athlete's most used limb like a wrist or leg, with their less used lim. The findings showed that the athlete had a higher bone density in their hand used for sports than their supporting hand. The best exercise for bone health is resistance in training with weights or jogging on a soft surface like running track versus a hard surface like the pavement.  Bone-friendly foods Calcium is essential in maintaining bone health , but other nutrients are also necessary to allow calcium to be most effective in protecting bones.

Breast Cancer Awareness in October

Image
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. Over the years, it has gained prominence around the world and is a very relevant topic in almost anywhere with the disease being highly prevalent in most countries worldwide. Early Detection:  There is a common misconception that breast cancer only affects older women. Global studies have shown that women between the age of 20 and 34, with a strong family history of the disease are most susceptible to the disease. All women, regardless of family history, must conduct an annual mammogram, after reaching the age of 35. Early detection of breast cancer is key to survival, and if women can be educated to self-check, this will help increase awareness and ultimately save lives.   It is okay to talk about it:  Women with breast cancer find it inappropriate to discuss the disease with their communities because it is still deemed a taboo. It is imperative that we communicate with one another on th
