4 WAYS TO PREVENT FOOD POISONING

Most food borne illnesses are preventable. Here are some tips that you can follow to significantly reduce your chances of contracting food poisoning, whether you are cooking at home or dining out.

·       Washing hands:
Wash your hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water before cooking and after preparing raw meat, fish, egg, and vegetables. Make sure to wash for about 20-30 seconds.

·       Food temperature:
When cooking at home, ensure that your food is cooked to a proper temperature and thoroughly to kill harmful germs. Always check recipe guides for reference for the safest temperature for cooking each type of food.

·       Perishable food items:
Refrigerate perishable foods within two hours or within one hour from purchasing when exposed to higher temperatures. If an item smells unusual after sitting in a room for an extended period of time, then it is recommended to discard it.

·       Dining out:
While eating at a restaurant, if your meat or eggs appear to be undercooked, send the dish back and request for a fresh plate.
