Top Tips for Good Mental Health II WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
Mental health is integral to living a healthy, balanced life. Our mental health encompasses our psychological, emotional and social wellbeing. This means it impacts how we feel, think and behave each day. Our mental health also contributes to our decision-making process, how we cope with stress and how we relate to others in our lives.
With World Mental Health Day coming up on Saturday, October 10, consider adopting these simple practices to ensure you’re protecting your mental wellbeing.
· Take care of yourself: It is important to take care of your physical health as this can affect your mental wellbeing. Trying to keep a balanced diet while also drinking plenty of water can help your energy levels.
· Exercise: Our mood is affected by chemicals in the body. Even gentle exercise can release ‘happy hormones’ that not only help us look and feel better, they can also increase concentration and aid sleep.
· Sleep and rest: Our bodies heal when we sleep and it is often easier to drift off when our mind is well rested. Therefore, take some time out during the day to go for a walk or to meditate; anything you consider a break from your daily errands.
· Do something creative: Activities or hobbies can keep you distracted, allowing for a positive impact on your sense of mental health and wellbeing and helping increase your confidence and self-esteem. This could be building something, playing an instrument, gardening, painting, completing a puzzle, cooking, writing, etc.
